The subpages of this page are where I’m posting a variety of resources related to working with shame prone and highly self-critical clients. Resources currently include:
- Homework handouts to give to clients
- Recommended books for therapists
- Recommended readings for clients
- Audio recordings of compassion-focused meditations
- Videos
- Case conceptualization frameworks
- Shame, self-criticism, and compassion measures
- Scripts for in-session compassion exercises
Please note that some of these resources have been evaluated and supported by research studies, while others are new and/or have not been empirically evaluated. We are sharing them with other therapists in the hope that they will use them in a manner consistent with the relevant evidence base relating to their clients. There are many streams of research and theory that inform the creation of our newly developed resources, most centrally Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Relational Frame Theory, and affective science relevant to shame and compassion. We hope you find these resources helpful in your practice and let us know what you learn as you use them.
