We are grateful and humbled that last month we reached 1,000 likes on Facebook! As we celebrate this milestone, we wanted to take a moment to thank all our supporters over these last few years who have helped to spread the word about ACT With Compassion. We are also incredibly grateful to those of you who have given us feedback and input which has helped to improve our work. Thank you all!
As an expression of appreciation, we decided to spend some time pulling together the work we’ve done so far and creating a concise, accessible, and clickable summary below that highlights some of our most popular posts and content that you can use in your practice. We hope this helps you easily locate the best materials on our site so that they are more accessible to you as you apply them to your work with clients. We also wanted to give you a sense of where we are heading and ask you for feedback on how we can make this website more useful. We do this work for you, so let us know what you need us to do to make it more helpful!
We’d really love to hear your feedback
- We’d love to hear from you about the website. In particular, we’d love feedback on three questions:
- Are there any materials you have found particularly useful in your work with clients? If so, how have you found them helpful with clients?
- How has the website informed your thinking about working with people who are highly self-critical?
- Do you have any feedback for us about how to make this work more useful for you? What would help you to be more effective or help with your learning?
- If you’re willing to share your thoughts on these questions or any other feedback with us, we’d love to hear from you. You can contact us through Facebook, Twitter, or in the comments at the bottom.
Future directions for ACTWithCompassion.com
- We plan to continue to respond to questions asked by users of the website – we love hearing from you. We have starting responding to your questions and comments in posts and hope to increase that two-way dialogue as we go forward. So keep your questions and comments coming!
- Online training – We will soon be offering monthly online consultation sessions for therapists interested in applying ACT With Compassion. Stay tuned for more information about our ACTWithCompassion “office hours.”
- Our new skills class – We are continuing to collect data on our class called Big Heart, Open Wide: A Class for Highly Self-Critical People. The first round of the class went well and we are gearing up for the second iteration. We look forward to sharing the initial data soon on what we’re seeing as a result of this 9-week class.
- We have already posted some of the material that we developed for the class to this website, such as this post, and this one. As we continue to develop and refine the class we will continue sharing the materials here for you to use. Our plan is to ultimately write up the entire course in a comprehensive manual that we will make available to others. But right now we’re still in the development phase and need to collect more data to see what is and isn’t working.
- “Team Compassion” continues to offer workshops both in the United States and around the world on working with highly shame-prone and self-critical individuals. We are very humbled by the opportunities we’ve had to share some of what we have learn to so many other people and we also continue to learn and refine our work from input we get from our workshop participants. We have just opened registration for our 2-day ACTWithCompassion workshop we’ll be hosting here in Portland on February 24th and 25th. If you are interested in attending, you can find out more information here.
- HOT OFF THE PRESSES!!! We are just finalizing the last details of our ACTWithCompassion summer training event to be held in August 2017. We are very excited to let you all know about this unique intensive training opportunity. More details will be coming very soon, but we’ll leave you with this to think about…would you (and your family?) like to combine vacation with training by spending a week next summer on Whidbey Island, just a couple hours from Seattle and the gateway to the San Juans? You’ll be able to train with us in the morning, and fish for crabs, relax, and enjoy the island all afternoon. We think that sounds like a lot of fun and so that’s why we decided to create this event. Stay tuned for more details or let us know directly if you’re interested in getting more information. You can email us at jbluoma@portlandpsychotherapyclinic.com if you are interested in getting the details when they are released.
